Don Quell upbeat about ‘Classick’
Rising dancehall artiste Don Quell is upbeat about what he described as a hard-hitting single titled Classick.
Re-released in September, the song aims at empowering the youth living in the inner cities to work hard and make money to uplift themselves.
"It's a song about motivation, and I want the youths to know that they can rise up and make something good of themselves. Living in certain communities can be really hard and challenging. But mi just want di ghetto youths dem fi know say whole heap a green (money) deh deh fi dem count, so dem fi just keep pushing. Mi nah lie, mi and other people a feel the energy on da song here, and mi feel like it a go be a mainstream hit," he said. The song was originally released in 2020.
Classick was produced by Evenknowdat Records, which currently manages the Westmoreland-based artiste.
"We have spent a lot of time in the streets promoting this single, and we will not stop until it reaches it real potential. All of the western end a Jamaica know it, and the popularity a grow inna other parts a Jamaica and the world. It a pick up pace on social media and yuh done know say social media a di place weh it deh ya now," he said.
Born James Emanuel Brown, Don Quell said he has his eyes set on copping a Grammy Award and believes his ambition is in line with his talent.
"I know I can become a giant on the local and international market, and this is not about tooting my own horn. I am a versatile songwriter, and I think I am a perfectionist as it relates to the material that I am presenting. I am also working alongside an amazing team that is ensuring that I get mainstream exposure," Don Quell said.
