Jamaica's Constitutional Reform Committee (CRC), which is expected to play a pivotal role in the country's transition to being a republic, has signed off on a list of recommendations to be submitted to the Cabinet.

Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte stated that the documents are being prepared, while delivering Monday's keynote address at the Jamaicans for Justice - European Union (EU) project launch for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Jamaica, in Kingston.

"The document is being prepared for [the] signature of committee members. You can be assured that in the same way we have put online all the confirmed minutes of the meetings, the report will go to Cabinet, and it will be tabled in the Parliament, and we will have an opportunity as a nation to discuss it in full," said Malahoo Forte.

Respected constitutional law expert Dr Lloyd Barnett, who was in attendance, was singled out for praise by Malahoo Forte for the instrumental role he has played in the process so far.

"Jamaica is blessed to still have with us someone who is a true expert in the field of constitutional law and who has dedicated his life to the work of reforming the supreme law of Jamaica," said Malahoo Forte. "I deem it such an honour and a privilege to have him as part of this process."
