Security guard charged with stealing a case of rum from workplace

A security guard is facing a larceny charge after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing a case of rum from a business establishment in South Parade, Kingston.

Charged with simple larceny is 35-year-old Jowayne Barrett of Old Harbour, St Catherine.

According to Central Police, the incident happened about 3:12 p.m. on Thursday, September 24.

The complainant reportedly noticed suspicious activity in the storeroom of the business and later reviewed closed-circuit television footage.

Police said the footage allegedly showed Barrett stealing one case of White Over Proof Rum valued at approximately J$20,000.

The matter was reported to the police and Barrett was subsequently identified, arrested and charged.

His court date is being finalised.
