74-y-o woman chopped to death in Portland home

A quiet Portland farming community has been left shaken after a 74-year-old retiree was found brutally chopped to death in her own home early Monday morning.

Dead is Nuriel Burke Mills, a resident of Fellowship in the Rio Grande Valley.

Police said Mills' body was discovered shortly after 1 a.m. by a relative, who found her lying in her bed with multiple chop wounds to her head.

The relative alerted the police, who responded to the scene.

Mills' body was subsequently removed to the morgue.

The circumstances surrounding the deadly attack remain unclear, and police have not identified a motive or suspect.

Detectives attached to the Criminal Investigation Branch in Port Antonio are probing the killing.

The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through Fellowship, with residents expressing fear and alarm over the killing of the senior citizen.

Fellowship is a farming community in the Rio Grande Valley, an area often regarded as the breadbasket of Portland.
