Investigators probe soldier’s killing

Investigators are still piecing clues together in relation to the murder of Andrae Thompson, a member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

Thompson, who is of a Portmore, St Catherine, address, was shot and killed along Eve Lane in Central Kingston on Sunday night. Police reports are that residents alerted the police after hearing loud explosions about 11 p.m. in the vicinity of Prestige Bakery. Upon the arrival of the police, a silver Toyota Axio motor car was observed parked along Eve Lane with all four doors ajar.

During a search of the area, the body of Thompson was observed laying face down in bushes with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. A pistol believed to be the property of the deceased was also found in the bushes. A Samsung cellular phone and a wallet containing a firearm user’s licence with US$40 as well as a bank card were also recovered.

The JDF said that its chaplaincy and welfare department is providing counselling and support services to the soldier’s family.
