‘876Roommates’ set for grand return

After a five-year hiatus, 876Roommates is getting set to storm back onto Jamaica’s reality-entertainment scene for a second season.

CEO Kazrae ‘Mr Bucktoe’ Gray says the comeback has been years in the making.

“The fans never gave up on the show. We constantly receive DMs asking when 876Roommates will return, and whenever I go live, fans are always asking about the show,” Gray said. “That continued support and demand made it clear that people were ready for another season.”

This time, Gray is bringing five years of experience to the table, and he believes the show is ready to level up.

“This season really means a lot to me. When I started 876Roommates, I had little to no experience,” Gray said. “Now I’ve had the opportunity to look back, rewatch the footage, identify my mistakes and understand where we could have done better. I’m taking everything I’ve learned and putting it into Season 2. This is our opportunity to make a bigger impact and give the audience entertainment on a whole different level.”

Unlike many reality shows, Season 2 will have no eliminations. The roommates will stay in the house throughout the experience, building friendships and alliances, tackling challenges, learning from one another and developing their talents.

Gray said the format is designed to let personalities – rather than forced television drama – drive the action.

“The biggest thing is that they can be themselves,” he said. “We know how to bring out the best in each person without limiting their creativity or personality. We’re creating an environment where the cast can express themselves naturally, and that’s where the real entertainment comes from.”

The casting process also put creativity under the microscope.

Applicants had to submit a one-minute skit or explain why they deserved a room in the mansion, giving producers a glimpse of their personalities, creativity and potential contribution to the show.

Rosalee, Jayden, Ackeem, Figure It Out and Jabass are among those already handpicked for the cast, with more names and surprises still to come.

“We wanted a mixture of personalities, creativity and fresh new talent,” Gray said. “The goal was to create a cast with different backgrounds, personalities and talents that could naturally interact, collaborate and create entertaining moments together.”

A cool J$5 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs, with one lucky winner set to pocket J$2 million.

“We’re not just bringing back the show –we’re bringing back the experience with more knowledge, bigger ideas, stronger production, more audience involvement and a whole new level of entertainment,” Gray said.

An official première date has not yet been announced, but the production team says an announcement is coming soon.
