Beating 'George's' highlights Denham Town season
The highlight of Denham Town High School's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association FLOW Manning Cup season may very well be the 2-1 win over St Georges College.
Creative midfielder, Tarrique Campbell, who has scored four goals and seven vital assists is relishing his performances and said the victory is one of fondest memories this season.
"We train hard, work hard so we can get results. I was aiming for 15 goals this season and aiming to be outstanding so I could get a scholarship or all Manning Cup team call up, and move on to play football professionally at a Club and for Jamaica," he said.
"I learn that in Manning Cup no team come to play, they come to war so they could win the Manning Cup. At Denham Town some of us players born with talent even though it is not easy to get recognised in this competition we work hard and train hard so we can shine for our school," he said.
"When we leave we hope to be remembered by our school as doing something special," the youngster added.
Denham Town is now in the Manning Cup second round, and finished the preliminary round behind St George's and ahead of Innswood High after all three teams remained locked on 22 points in a hotly contested Group C.
"We can go far in the Manning Cup. This season has been great for me, beating George's was the best. They did beat us first at home but we went back to the drawing board, train hard and prepare for them and beat them after coming off a three match winning streak," he recalled.
As for beating the many-time schoolboy football champions, he admitted:
"It motivated us and is a big feeling for us-make us feel like we can beat any team ever."
