St Ann's Bay:

Street footballers put on a spectacular show for fans in St Ann's Bay last Saturday as they vied for the title of parish champion for St Ann and St Mary in the Guinness Street Football Competition (GSFC). Teams from both parishes gathered at the St Ann's Bay Taxi Stand to put their skills to test and advance to the national finals.

After several rounds of competition, Beverly FC emerged as the champions for St Ann, while Five Star grabbed the top prize for St Mary. Each team won $100,000 and a place in the national finals set for May 29 in Kingston, where they will battle for the title of national champion and even more prize money.

The other teams awarded on Saturday were St Ann's Parry Town who came in second, and Zest United who were the runners-up from St Mary. Guinness also recognised prolific goalscorers Brandon Nelson from Beverley FC and Glenfilo Hasselbank from Five Star. Both were given Golden Boot Awards, cash and other prizes.

In addition to the day's main contest, local ballers got a chance to impress in the Guinness Skills Challenge. The skills component of the competition challenges players to show off their juggling skills and prove that they are made of more.

The next match day will take place on April 9 at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay. Teams can sign up for the four-a-side scrimmage online at www.gsfcjamaica.com, via social media or by calling the GSFC Hotline at 618-9291.
