Sport Minister, the Honourable Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, has extended congratulations to both the male and female West Indies cricket teams for winning their semi-final matches and advancing to the respective finals of the ICC Twenty20 2016 Cricket World Cup in Mumbai, India.

"Our ladies have made history in advancing to a T20 finals for the very first time. We have seen their dedication throughout the tournament and we see now, how it has paid off for them. It is indeed a great day for women in sports within the region," the Minister said, adding that their performance was truly admirable and is a perfect example of the notion 'hard work reaps success'.

In congratulating the male team, the Minister said, "There was no doubt in my mind that the team would secure this much needed win for the Caribbean. The fighting spirit displayed in the just concluded semi-final match, I believe, is testament to how the team will perform in the upcoming finals. This match was well played and this victory is well deserved."

The Minister explained that yesterday was indeed a great day for West Indies cricket.

"Sports remain a pertinent tool in fostering regional integration and this is an ideal example as I am sure the entire region joins in the celebration of pure dominance in the 2016 T20 tournament," she said.

As a country that forms part of the region called the West Indies, Jamaica shares in the jubilation of this victory and extends best wishes to both teams as they strive to create history in taking back to the West Indies, both titles.

"Well played West Indies," Minister Grange added.
