Jamaica's Under-16 netball team defeated Barbados 53-21 to lift the Jean Pierre Youth Tournament trophy for the 11th time yesterday.

Barbados lost their only match to grab the runners-up spot.

On Thursday, Jamaica and Barbados set up the title-deciding showdown with comfortable wins on day five of the championship.

Playing at the Netball Stadium on the outskirts of the city, the young Sunshine Girls easily dismissed Trinidad and Tobago 45-10 while the hosts were hardly troubled in their 35-13 canter over St Lucia.

Jamaica were dominant from the outset in Thursday's match, racing to a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter before posting a 15-7 half-time lead. They blew away the Trinidadians 13-2 in the third quarter to take a commanding 28-9 advantage heading into the final period, where they clobbered their opponents 17-1 down the stretch.

Goal shoot Lori Daley once again led the way with 37 goals from 46 attempts while goal attack Zandra Cohen was a perfect six from six.

For the losers, goal attack Kadeemah Herbert scored seven from 13.
