TORONTO, Canada (CMC):

Barbadians Patrick Husbands and Juan Crawford both logged single wins on the ten-race card at Woodbine racetrack here on Sunday.

The seven-time champion Husbands scored in the CDN$47,500 race with 2-1 chance Bella Fabiana, while Crawford landed his win in the CDN$21,000 race when he steered 8-1 outsider Saratoga Boy to an upset victory.

Husbands, who has started the new season strongly, is in a three-way tie for second on five wins behind defending champion, the Brazilian Eurico Rosa da Silva, who has six wins.

The win for Crawford, meanwhile, was his first of the season.

The 42-year-old Husbands opened his account over 51/2 furlongs when he carried the bay filly Bella Fabiana to a 11/4 length victory over the three-year-olds which never won outside of their maiden.

Husbands raced near the rear of the pack early on as 4-1 bet Westlodge Intrigue posted the early fractions to carve out a healthy two-length lead at the halfway mark.

Once in the stretch, the filly rallied and grabbed the lead mid-stretch to reach the wire strongly.

Crawford reached the winners' enclosure when he led the seven-year-old chestnut gelding Saratoga Boy to a 21/2 length victory over the three-year-olds and upward, going five furlongs.
