Racing under the stars makes debut at Palisadoes
With the stage set for this evenings "first of its kind racing under the stars," which will be hosted by Redbull in association with the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) president David Summerbell says today's race meet number 5 will be memorable and exciting for patrons and fans of the sport.
According to Summerbell, a many-time champion driver both locally and in the Caribbean, lovers of the sport, enthusiasts and supporters should come out to enjoy "the future of motorsports-racing under lights."
The event will be staged at the Palisadoes International Raceway, located in Kingston from 3-9 p.m.
The cost to enter will be adults $700, while kids will pay $200.
"This will be the first time ever that we will be having night racing at the Palisadoes, a number of people thought about making it happen in the past and we are able to now make it happen," Summerbell said.
According to the veteran race car driver, and JKA president, it will be a must attend event for all who love the sport.
"People can expect a good family setting, with good lighting, provided by good towers and light in the stands and proper lighting in the race area," he STAR Sports.
Summerbell considers this event, and others which will enable families, fans and patrons to come out to watch in the cool of night, the "future of motor sporting."
"People are always saying that it's hot in the days but this is something new, under the stars, it's nice, it's in the cool of night which makes it easier to come out and watch for all," added Summerbell.
At today's event there will be four corporate teams competing in rented karts for the first time, while patrons will have the ability to rent a kart and enjoy themselves or compete.
Summerbell said the racing will be very entertaining and will be backed up by good commentators, music and patrons can cool down with refreshment which will be on sale.
Some of the big names expected to compete are; youngsters, Kyle Gregg, Collin Daley and Timothy Stewart.
There will be a monster battle between Ryan Chisholm and Ryan Lue in the Rotax Mini-Max Class, while the Super Rotax class will feature Joel Jackson, Andre Anderson and David Summerbell among seniors.
