ISSA President Keith Wellington said a shortlist of people has been drafted as the association seeks to fill the role of competitions director, which has been vacant since April.

George Forbes officially demitted the post over three months ago, after serving 16 years under three presidents. With schools set to reopen in September and ISSA competitions expected to start soon after, it is essential that ISSA fills the role as soon as possible.

However, no timeline for the new appointment has been given but Wellington says that ISSA is taking the necessary steps to acquire a new competitions director for the new school term.

Wellington says that the ISSA office being closed since March, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has also slowed the process.

Forbes went on pre-retirement leave on May 1, but it comes to an end next month.

In May, he said he felt he was being forced out of the organisation on a technicality because of what he said were "personal feelings" of some members.

He said that the age of retirement, which was increased from 60 to 65 years old on April 1, 2018, meant that public officers employed before this date and those who turned 60 during the transitional period after that date, and wished to extend their service until they are 65, would have to do so on the blessing of their employers. However, Forbes' contract was not reviewed for an extension by ISSA.
