Bank on Gallant Groom in ‘Big Sub’ Trophy feature

FAVOURITES dominated last Saturday’s Reggae 6, RIDGE LINER winning the third event at odds of 3-1 being the longest shot on a $4,328 payout.

Champion trainer Jason DaCosta, who saddled two winning Reggae 6 favourites last Saturday, has GALLANT GROOM as a banker in the third event for the Errol ‘Big Sub’ Memorial Trophy.

GALLANT GROOM, a first-time-out winner in January for DaCosta at Mahoning Valley, Ohio, shipped to Jamaica following a second-place run 10 days later, aims to close a hat-trick of wins from four starts locally

The American cruised to a second consecutive win on September 6, pulling away from speedy stablemate EYE OF THE TIGER inside the last half-furlong.

GALLANT GROOM can’t be made any sharper, clocking a solid 1:12.0 for six furlongs at exercise on Sunday, a workout begrudged by grade-one runners with December’s US$300,000 Mouttet Mile on their radars.

Saturday’s other proposed Reggae 6 banker is Al Brown’s EL CAPITON in the fifth, facing DaCosta’s KING KIDD as his main danger.
