Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is appealing to event planners to avoid the last-minute rush for the application of temporary electricity supply. This includes persons hosting concerts, stage shows, parties and other social events which may require electricity, beyond what is normally available at the planned site.

Director of Corporate Communications, Winsome Callum, notes that "although many customers are aware of the process to receive temporary supply, we want to remind them not to wait until the last minute, but to allow themselves adequate time for certification by the Government Electrical Inspector (GEI), as well as processing time for the application at JPS".

Customers seeking to use parks, neighbourhood spaces and other locations which may not have regular supply, should obtain the service of a licensed electrician to ensure that the wiring is safe and meets the standards for certification by the GEI.

JPS is also reminding other users of temporary supply, such as construction site operators, to properly obtain electrical power in order to protect life and property.

Persons wishing to learn more about temporary supply may go to the JPS website at myjpsco.com or call the customer care centre at 1-888-CALLJPS (1-888-225-5577).
