Talented singjay Shav-A is a second-generation star in the making.

The daughter of Admiral Tibet, she has toured with her father for many years, doing background vocals on stage shows in the United States and the Caribbean.

But now "my main focus is my solo career," said the artiste, whose given name is Shavanique Allen.

The 27-year-old crafted her stage name using the first four letters of her Christian name and the first initial of her surname.

"My name is unique, like me," said with a smile.

She is banking on the success of her latest single, I Need You, which was released in June 2018 on the Simuls Production label.

"The feedback has been very positive. Most who have listened the song love it because it's different, they call it reggae fusion, and feel I have brought something new to the table," she said.

She has performed as a solo act on a number of local club shows and to larger audiences during the RJR Cross Country Invasion earlier this year.

WORKING ON EP

She has been working on a six-song EP which will feature the work of producers such as Tony Kelly and Antiguan Andrew Dorsettt. Three of the tracks have been completed.

She revealed that she feels no pressure to be a star like her father.

"I am comfortable in my own skin, working at my own pace doing what I enjoy. My dad would love if I did more cultural songs, but I have to be my own person and build a legacy of my own. He appreciates what I do, but there's no pressure from him as long as I keep it clean," she said. "I am a classy person, I don't need to go raunchy for people to hear me or strike an interest; I will keep it sexy and classy."
