‘When Mi Nice’ creating a buzz for Kyodi
Few people are familiar with fast-rising dancehall artiste Kyodi, the man behind the track When Mi Nice, which is currently blazing up the dancehall scene.
He is looking to use the song's buzz to cement his place as a force in the music business.
Kyodi, who hails from Aidonia's 4th Genna music camp, told THE STAR that he was not surprised at the success of his breakout single.
"Aidonia tell mi say him have a riddim fi mi and so mi tell him fi shat it to me. It reach mi email by the time mi get home and mi deh deh a medz it and normally mi woulda medz a riddim and find a song fi it inna di same day, within a few hours, but dis song yah take me like a good two weeks, so me did know something special about it," he said.
"I told myself I was going to master the riddim and fix things the right way and when mi see how the people dem a react to it, mi a say 'wow'. Mi did want a track weh gi people a bad vibes when dem listen it so dem can gwaan wid dem self. When mi nice and go a party a so mi gwaan like how yuh hear mi a talk inna di song, so a facts. And mi know say people did a go relate to it."
The track, which was recorded at Yaad Music Studio, was released some two months ago and has amassed close to 60,000 views on YouTube.
"A wah day mi and Aidonia a reason and him a tell mi say mi have the ears dem right now and to how mi have it, nobody can't hold me. Him say a just the next three songs a go determine how far mi reach and a him a say the song dem weh him a hear so far, a one shoot pass and me reach," he said pointing out that the support he has received from the 4th Genna camp means the world to him.
Growing up as a fan of dancehall music, he says he realises the industry is competitive, but believes he has something that will ultimately set him apart from everyone else.
"Teamwork make the dream work, and one hand can't clap so dem man deh as the bigger gun dem inna di thing fi deh deh and a teach the way, lead the way fi mi, it mean everything to me. Right now mi just a plan fi keep the bar up deh and raise it even further. We have whole heap a project a forward and it a go show people say we nuh have one hit," he said. "Mi have the follow-up track dem ready already. I am currently working with Yaad Music, Aicon Records, Prince Villa records, Futuristic Music, Luigi Society, 4th Genna music and many more."
Kyodi says he has seen the rise and fall of many artistes, "So before mi even go inna dis music thing, mi tell mi self say me ready and mi a go prove myself.
"I am confident in my talent, and I know that alone a go bring me far," he said.
Three interesting facts about Kyodi:
1. He met Aidonia as a student at Dunrobin Primary. He and Aidonia's cousin used to play on the school's football team.
2. Kyodi says he is a great football player, adding that he plays just as well as he writes songs.
3. The 24-year-old attended two high schools -- Kingston College and Excelsior High School.
