Skillibeng collaboration with rapper could open int’l doors
Following news that Skillibeng has landed his first big international collaboration, Claims Records' CEO Gutty Bling says crossover success for the artiste is imminent.
The track, Money Counter, done with rapper Young MA, was officially released on the weekend and is featured on an album for renowned US deejay, DJ Megan Ryte. The compilation, titled DJ Megan Ryte, is her debut project and also features artistes like Remy Ma, Rich The Kid and Wyclef Jean.
In an interview with THE STAR, Gutty Bling, who is the co-producer of Money Counter, said DJ Megan Ryte sent him a message on Instagram.
"She loved Skillibeng's vibe and what he brings to the table as a new aged dancehall artiste and asked if she could get him on her album, on a track with Young MA. I sent Skilli the beat and told him the idea and he loved it. He told me that once I was a part of the production to really bring off his style how he wants it, everything good. We relay the information to Megan and Skilli voiced on the track with Young MA, and the song is making waves right now overseas," he said. "This is my first international feature as well and I know what potential this holds for everyone."
Gutty Bling said that although Skillibeng has nothing to prove, this recent collaboration will show that he has what it takes to 'buss' outside of Jamaica.
"Nuff people never did a expect this (Young MA) collab and people a hear it now and a think, 'Wow, Skilli a go crossover and go international,' and it's a good look for the artiste, because getting international attention was always the goal for us," he said. "Him know say him a put out the work and people a go wah work wid him. Right now Rich the Kid deh Jamaica and a Skilli dem man deh a par wid. The young US rappers have him on dem radar because his trap dancehall sound matches their vibe, and so a him a di thing right now, man."
Money Counter was uploaded to Skillibeng's YouTube channel on Sunday and has already racked up close to 100,000 views.
