Popcaan not under arrest - Artiste’s camp rubbishes rumour
Sources close to dancehall artiste Popcaan insist that he has not been arrested in Ghana contrary to some reports.
A video making the rounds yesterday showed the 'Unruly Boss' being escorted by law enforcers in the country, igniting the rumour that he had been detained. However, details have emerged that the artiste was instead just being escorted by his security personnel as he continues to enjoy his time in the 'Motherland'.
Late last month, dancehall deejay Beenie Man was the subject of a similar rumour which he has since shut down in a press release. He, too, was in Ghana where he performed at Stonebwoy's Bhim concert.
Popcaan is no stranger to Ghana and has often captured the royal treatment he receives when he visits the country through social media posts. He showed love to his security detail yesterday through a series of Instagram snaps as he was out on the town. The men could be seen smiling for the camera and saluting the artiste as he also gave close-ups of their firearms.
The Silence deejay has been in the country for a few months and has shared his many ventures from touring gold-mining company TransEco Minerals and Mining, to ringing in the new year at the Gatsby Gala Night where he spent GHS$100,000 (J$2.4 million) on a bottle of champagne during an auction. The posh event was hosted by Ghanaian millionaire Freedom Jacob and was attended by other celebrities like Stefflon Don, Stonebwoy and Davido.
According to his agent, Sharon Williams, in a recent interview with THE STAR, the entertainer is hoping to do a tour in Africa between this month and February, with a booking in Gambia already confirmed for January 15.
