Sebastian Braham does parish tours for the ‘good of the gospel’
Despite many roadblocks, having not been able to bring his ministry to the stage for two years, musical minister and songwriter Sebastian Braham says that 2022 has been a productive year.
Along with performing for several virtual events, he toured Canada for three and a half months, performing at concerts, crusades and church services, and he also launched his own parish tours locally.
"I was able to perform before so many persons that have never seen me before (did) and I felt loved and appreciated for what I bring to the fore in another country. Encouraging people have always been something that I love to do, and being on the road is something that I enjoy. After I conceptualised 'Jubilee' as a celebratory concert which was to be a one-time staging, I thought to myself, why not take the event to all the parishes and keep the celebration going for the good of the gospel?" Braham shared.
Known widely for up-tempo and traditional songs, which are thought to be rooted in the revival era, Braham has been committed to setting his sound apart from others in the industry while holding on to tradition.
"Many persons are of the notion that traditional gospel music was a thing of the past, and they are slowly realising that traditional music is here to stay. I often times mix my music with revival sound to give it a different feel and to include some of our culture here in Jamaica, which is well beloved," he said. "I want to be able to empower listeners through music and to bring back the feeling of togetherness, getting everyone back to normal concert activities of jumping, shouting and clapping and praising God."
Last year, Braham also dipped his feet into theatre and collaborated with Andrea 'Delcita' Wright for a play titled Nosy Neighbah. However, Braham said that the majority of the supporters for that venture were not from the Christian community.
"My main supporters, even as a traditional gospel singer and songwriter, were never Christians, and that means my message is getting to a wider audience who needs to hear. With the play, hosted originally as an online event, persons have asked if I have intentions to continue and I think I surely will. I even plan on taking it on the road, for the persons that know me personally always say that I have a great sense of humour and I find that I like to make people laugh," he said.
In Braham's immediate future is the release of his first live video recording concert to be produced by Kamar 'Danx' Forrest.
"I anticipate that will be a project of great influence and I look forward to 2023, because of it," Braham said.
