Contributed Damarley Laing, Chevanie Rose (centre) and Simone-Claire Campbell show off their winnings from the Digicel's 'Merry Millions' game show-inspired Christmas promotion launch last Friday.

After copping a quarter-million-dollar cash prize in Digicel's Merry Millions Game Show on TV, Chevanie Rose, 22, thanked her lucky stars that she decided to make the early morning drive from St Ann to Kingston last Friday.

Following her participation in a social media competition hosted on the telecoms provider's Instagram page, Rose admitted that she was surprised but quite hesitant after receiving a call from Digicel telling her that she had won and had qualified to go on to the next round of the game.

After calling Digicel's customer care department to verify, however, Rose decided to take part. She also faced resistance from her cautious parents, who did not want her to travel to Kingston by herself.

"At first, when I got the call from Digicel saying that I had won the chance to be on the TV show, I was in disbelief," said Rose, who is an assistant office manager at R&J Pharmacy in St Ann. "I had even told the Digicel rep that I wouldn't be able to make it, but she encouraged me, and kept telling me that the prize would be worth it. So after checking and double-checking and then convincing my parents to let me go, I finally did, and I am so delighted and thankful that I did."

seeking a loan

When asked what she might use her winnings to do, she answered right off the bat to say that she would be returning to school. "It's just last week that I started the process of seeking a loan as I had planned to go to UWI to study business accounting," Rose shared. "I'm so happy that I entered the competition on Digicel's page, and now that I have won $250,000, I don't have to go and find all the money by myself. I just feel so blessed."

The other two contestants who participated in the game show, Damarley Laing and Simone-Claire Campbell, also entered the competition via Digicel's Facebook and Twitter pages, respectively. The three participated in a Wheel of Fortune-inspired game, which allowed them to spin the Digicel 'Merry Millions' wheel and win a number of prizes, including smartphones, shopping vouchers, home- improvement vouchers and more.

While Rose won a DL910 smartphone and the top cash prize, Laing won a Huawei Media Pad and free data for a year Campbell won $5,000 cash and a DL910 smartphone.

Digicel's Merry Millions promotion will run until December 31, 2015, giving six customers the chance to become a millionaire each week. Over 42,000 customers overall will win a share of the $20 million in cash and prizes.
