JLP wins Jamaica's 17th general election
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on Thursday won Jamaica's 17th general election after whipping the People's National Party (PNP) in a close election that was marked for low voter turnout.
The JLP won 33 of the 63 seats leaving only 30 for the PNP.
The win will see the JLP forming Jamaica's government for the fifth time since 1962.
Party leader Andrew Holness managed to retain his West Central St. Andrew seat as his wife and newcomer Juliet Holness grabbed the St Andrew East Rural seat from the PNP's Imani Duncan-Price.
