Swaby in danger of missing next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup

The Reggae Girlz could be facing a major defensive setback, with experienced centre-back Allyson Swaby in danger of missing next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup if Jamaica qualifies.

According to Radio Jamaica Sports, it is understood that the 30-year-old sustained an injury to her right Achilles during Tuesday’s 3-1 friendly defeat away to Mexico, which could sideline her for an extended period.

Swaby, who captained the team for the match, was carried off the field after suffering the injury in the second half.

Her potential absence would be a blow for the Reggae Girlz as they prepare for a crucial showdown with Costa Rica in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship on November 27 in Texas.

The winner of that match will secure qualification for next year’s Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be held in Brazil from June 24 to July 25.
