Gunmen shoot nine people at wake

The St Catherine North police are probing the circumstances under which nine people were shot and injured during a drive by shooting in Grange Lane, St Catherine yesterday morning.

Information reaching THE STAR is that between midnight and 1a.m., there was a large gathering at a wake in the community, when a car drove up and opened fire hitting five males and four females. There were all taken to the hospital for treatment. Up to press time last night none of the injured had succumbed.

Reports from the police are that the gunmen used a high-powered sub machine gun to carry out the attack.

THE STAR was unable to determine who the nine night was being held for.

The police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) confirmed the reports. No motive has been established for the shooting neither has nay suspect been identified.
