Blocked drains cause severe flooding on Marcus Garvey Drive
Blocked drains are said to be the cause of severe flooding on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston on Friday afternoon.
Reports are that many persons were unable to leave business places for more than an hour, and several motorists were left stranded.
Employees of the Wallenford Coffee Company sought refuge on the upper floor and stairway of the building, as the ground floor was inundated with water.
There are also reports that several vehicles have been damaged at the Fisheries Division.
Communications Manager at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw, says a pile up of garbage contributed to the flooding along Marcus Garvey Drive where road work is also underway.
He said work crews have been dispatched to the area to address the flooding problem.
