Jarrett Lane residents condemn baby stealing drama
Residents of Jarrett Lane, located off Mountain View Avenue, have expressed shock and disgust at the actions of a community member charged with child stealing.
Lorna Williams, 47, is to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today to answer to the charge stemming from an incident where she allegedly stole a one day-old baby from a ward at the University hospital of the West Indies on Friday.
Yesterday, residents, though reluctant to speak about Williams, claimed she was just a person they saw in the community occasionally and that she was not really a people person.
THE STAR was told that Williams allegedly has five children and six grandchildren.
There was also one resident who questioned Williams' age, and refuted the theory why she allegedly stole the baby.
"She is in her 50s ... a who she a try fool? There is no man overseas. The man she is with lives in the community. He is about 29, 30 and they been together for almost 10 years and she don't have any kids for him," the resident stated.
THE STAR was told Williams has allegedly faked pregnancy before.
A resident told THE STAR, "A monster was created because the gentleman she is with finally got a young girl from the community pregnant. She also tried to fight off the girl."
Another resident said they have since heard it's not the first time she was "involved in something like this".
The community members said no one pities her, and that they don't condone such behaviour. They said they will be watching the proceedings closely.
