Fighting dogs lead to owners clashing

Two St James men ended up before the St James Parish Court after they got into a fight stemming from a quarrel that started when their dogs were fighting with each other.

Garfield Peterkin and Mark Wynter appeared in a cross-case before presiding judge Sandria Won-Small, with both men charged with assault.

Although the date of the allegations was not disclosed, the court was told that the men got into a dispute after their dogs were found fighting each other. The dog-owners' argument then escalated into

a fight, in which Peterkin sustained a swollen eye and Wynter sustained injuries to his back.

In addressing Wong-Small, Peterkin's attorney, Clive Mullings, described the incident as one that got out of hand.

"It was a matter of neighbours gone awry, and Mr Peterkin got a swollen eye and a gash to the back of his head," said Mullings.

The court was also told

that the medical certificates for both men were still outstanding from the prosecution's casefile.

The case was subsequently set for mention on July 5, and Peterkin and Wynter had their bails extended to that date.
