91-y-o chopped to death in St Ann
A 91-year-old butcher was yesterday chopped to death in his Bohemia, St Ann, home.
The deceased, Zemel Hanson, was found with multiple chop wounds and a slashed throat on Thursday morning. A machete was also found on the bed, beside the deceased's body.
According to reports, thugs gained entrance to the house through a back window, where they attacked him.
A neighbour, who was on the scene yesterday morning, told our newsroom that aside from being a butcher, the senior citizen was also a farmer.
"Him a 90-odd but him act like 41. Him active! Him did inna di house alone. Police come and find di cutlass weh dem use fi kill him did still in deh. Me nuh know if dem did have more weapon but one cutlass did lef pon di bed. A yesterday him buy a cow fi slaughter tomorrow, enuh," the neighbour said.
Winston Brown, councillor for the Borobridge Division, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the killing may be robbery motivated.
"I have heard about nothing like this in recent times. The community is in shock. Nobody knows why someone could do a thing like that. The entire community is in mourning," he said.
