Portland rocked by double murder

Detectives from the Criminal Investigative Branch in Port Antonio have not yet established a motive for Wednesday's killing of a couple at their home in Barracks, Manchioneal, eastern Portland.

Residents were reportedly awakened by loud explosions, resembling gunfire, during the early hours of Wednesday. Hours later, after the police arrived, the bodies of Annette Carby-Lindsay, 60, and her husband, Linval Lindsay, 55, a handyman, were discovered.

Carby-Lindsay was found underneath a bed with what appeared to be multiple chop wounds to the face and neck, while the body of her husband was discovered along a roadway some metres from the couple's home with multiple gunshot wounds. The police have theorised that he was attempting to flee his attackers, but was chased and shot multiple times.

"I knew the couple very well and I am shocked at what has taken place, especially with the killing of the wife," said Paul Thompson, mayor of Port Antonio and councillor for the Manchioneal division.

"She is such a lovely lady and I don't know who would want to kill her. She's just jovial and loving. She's just somebody that you really have to like. I don't know how or why anyone would want to kill someone like her. Her husband is a very controversial person," added Thompson. Barracks has not had any flare-up of violence for five years.
