Another student stabbed at school
Following the stabbing of a student at the Excelsior High School in Kingston yesterday afternoon, one concerned parent says she is eager to remove her child from that institution.
The incident, which took place in front the school gate yesterday afternoon, reportedly involved a grade 10 and a grade 11 student.
A parent, who claims to have witnessed the incident, described it as frightening.
"A some stone me see a throw and everybody a run, and me a run too. When me look, how me see di yute a walk wid di knife ... Jesus!,"
The injured student was taken to hospital for treatment.
The parent said that based on his observation, the school has not been doing a good job of searching students for weapons before they are allowed entry to the compound.
"All dem a do a check temperature and spray alcohol inah yuh hand, dem nah search nobody. Dem not doing any search, dem not even use the body sumn weh can detect if you have metal," the parent claimed.
The student condition wasn't known at press time. Attempts to speak with administrators of the school proved futile.
Yesterday's stabbing is yet another major incident to have rocked the nation's schools in recent days. On Monday, 16-year-old Khamal Hall was stabbed to death by his schoolmate following a dispute over a guard ring at William Knibb High School in Trelawny.
