‘Confectionery delights’ - Clarendon man gets year’s supply of Krispy Kreme donuts
Adam Bogle turned up at Krispy Kreme's Waterloo Road, St Andrew, before daybreak on Friday, more than 24 hours before the grand opening of the donut company and coffeehouse chain's first store in Jamaica on Saturday.
The Clarendon native was among more than 400 people who braved adverse weather in order to ensure that they were not only on hand to witness history, but also for the confectionery delights.
"I drove in and reached here at 5:34 Friday morning. It was a fun experience, I camped out with a few friends and made some new acquaintances," Bogle said.
Being the first in line when the store opened, Bogle, a 22-year-old content creator, was handed a golden ticket, which guarantees him one year's supply of Krispy Kreme's original glazed donuts (one dozen per week).
"It's a privilege honestly, it's a privilege and I'm just excited to get some donuts," he said.
Nadia Kiffin-Green, head of sales and marketing for the pastry giant, told THE STAR that Krispy Kreme considers itself "very generous" and has always been keen to spread love and joy. Speaking on the phenomenon of people camping out in the parking lot for a taste of the confectionery delights, Kiffin-Green said it was influenced by people's love for the donuts.
Bogle was not the only one who left Waterloo Road celebrating the fact that he has been gifted a year's worth of donuts. Eleven (2nd-12th) persons were given six months' supply of original glazed donuts, and 88 (13th - 100th customers in line) got three months' supply of the product.
Kingston residents Betty Lou and Andre Card told THE STAR they spent the night camping out in the parking lot with their three children so that they could be among the first in line on Saturday morning.
"We've been here since 6 p.m. yesterday," Andre said at Saturday's opening.
Chiming in, his wife of more than 25 years, Betty Lou, said, "It was actually quite good, enuh, I got a good rest. They checked us at 11 -- a line check -- and then after that I slept for maybe about four hours."
Andre continued, "We came out for a couple of reasons: One, for the experience because we're a very outgoing family -- our three children are here with us today, too. But also the actual donuts. You know that Krispy Kreme gave out a lot of samples and we had some samples one Saturday in the plaza, and I couldn't wait to have some more. The glazed ones that they were giving away literally melt in your mouth."
