Family fears the worst after St Ann man goes missing

A St Ann family is left waiting and wondering what has happened to their loved one, after 43-year-old Fabion Lawrence left his Murray Mountain home a week ago and has not been seen since.

All calls to his phone have gone straight to voicemail.

“Him don’t do nothing for work, enuh, him just drink and smoke, that’s just him. A nuh like him have money fi dem see him and rob,” his older brother Coy Lawrence said as he tried to make sense of his brother’s disappearance.

Lawrence told THE STAR that his brother owned a 2019 pearl white Toyota Voxy that he was driving when he was last seen. Fabion was reportedly wearing brown shoes and brown shirt. Now, nearly a week later, Lawrence said his hope is fading as he struggles to accept the possibility that something terrible may have happened to his brother.

“Nobody is there with his grandma now because him gone stray and mek people murder him. That must be it if me deh call the phone and nah get him. The bus can’t find either so a stray him stray and dem take away the bus. A muss something like that because if it wasn’t that, the bus wudda find,” he said.

Lawrence said he last saw Fabion last Wednesday about 9 a.m.

“I was driving and so was he, but we are going in opposite direction. But I stopped him and said ‘You ah drive too fast parrie, a school morning, easy’, and him just give me a smile,” he recalled. At the time, Lawrence had no reason to believe that would be the last time he saw his brother. Since he had already seen Fabion that morning, he did not check on him later that day. But by Thursday evening, a call from their aunt left him devastated.

“Him aunty call me and say if me nuh see Fabion and me say no and me hang up and call him same time. Mi nuh get him and his phone is never like that,” he said.

Lawrence said he immediately began checking the places where his brother was known to frequent and reached out to a friend who was also concerned about Fabion’s whereabouts. As the hours turned into a night without answers, Lawrence said his worry became overwhelming.

“Mi cyaa sleep the night and the phone really nah ring. Every minute mi call, right through the night mi naa sleep,” he said.

While Fabion’s disappearance was unusual, Lawrence said he initially held on to hope that his brother would return and eventually reported him missing on Saturday.

“I don’t know his friends and know if he told anyone where he was going. The thing is when his mother’s side of people is here, he is the one driving them around and would be out for weeks but that’s not the case now,” he added.

Although Lawrence fears the worst, he said he is still holding out for answers. But he admitted that the disappearance has left the family struggling to cope as the uncertainty surrounding his brother’s whereabouts continues to weigh heavily.

“Him just never come in the Wednesday night and that was it. I am not around the rest of the family, I am taking care of our 90-odd-year-old grandfather and I tell him to stick to his grandmother and stay weh she deh and him lef her and gone.”
