Cop punched, disarmed of gun in St Andrew

A policeman was reportedly punched in the face and disarmed of his service Glock pistol during a confrontation with a man in St Andrew North on Sunday.

The incident happened about 4:45 p.m. on September 20 along Whittington Way, Kingston 8.

According to reports, the detective was responding to a report of housebreaking and robbery with aggravation when he accosted a suspect.

The man allegedly overpowered the policeman, punched him in the face and grabbed his Glock pistol, along with two magazines containing 34 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect reportedly pointed the weapon at the detective before escaping on foot.

The Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau is investigating the incident.
