Man arrested for alleged murder of 'Shabba'

A taxi operator is in police custody after another driver was allegedly mowed down and killed following a heated argument along Gutters Main Road in Old Harbour, St Catherine, early Sunday morning.

The dead man has been identified by his alias “Shabba”, who reportedly operated on the Spanish Town to Old Harbour route.

Reports are that about 2 a.m. on September 27, Shabba and the suspect were in the Gutters area when a verbal clash reportedly erupted between the two men.

During the argument, the suspect allegedly threatened to kill Shabba.

Shabba reportedly walked out onto the roadway, where the suspect allegedly drove into him, striking him with the vehicle.

It is further alleged that after Shabba fell to the ground, the suspect reversed the vehicle and ran over him again.

The severely injured driver was assisted to Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver later turned himself in at the Old Harbour Police Station and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Shabba's death.
