When news broke that American music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs had reportedly been involved in a physical altercation with convicted Jamaican drug lord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke on Tuesday afternoon, a few residents of Coke’s former West Kingston stronghold were sceptical.

“Mi never believe because that a just talking. And see mi hear say is just a rumour and that everyone a say because people lie, enuh. Nothing nuh go so,” one resident told the news team.

According to a report by TMZ, the confrontation reportedly erupted after Combs allegedly caused trouble that resulted in disciplinary action against fellow inmates, prompting Coke to allegedly bust his head open during a scuffle.

However, in an Instagram Story post, a woman, who it is speculated is a relative of Coke, sought to dismiss the claims on Wednesday.

“Good night. The family would like everyone to know that Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke is not in solitary confinement. The post about Diddy is completely false and nothing more than fake news. Christopher has never met or seen Diddy; he is housed in the east wing, while Diddy is in the west wing… .” she posted.

To further dispel the rumours, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons also dismissed the report in a statement to USA TODAY on Thursday.

“While, for privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, we can tell you that the story you are referring to is false and did not happen,” the spokesperson said. In addition, speaking on popular New York radio show The Breakfast Club, entertainment journalist Loren LoRosa said she had spoken to a family member of Combs, who insisted “there was not a fight at all”. LoRosa challenged the TMZ account of the incident, explaining that Combs is “guarded” when outside the prison’s Special Housing Unit. She also said the two prisoners were housed on “completely different sides” of the facility, questioning how the alleged confrontation could have occurred during a daily recreation period.

Although the family member could not establish precisely what caused Combs’ injury, LoRosa said relatives were “not 100 per cent certain what” had happened. However, they maintained “it definitely wasn’t anything crazy”. LoRosa also confirmed that Combs had returned to the prison after receiving medical attention.

She said he “was brought right back to jail”, where he “is currently sitting right now”.

Meanwhile, another West Kingston resident who spoke with THE WEEKEND STAR said he had seen what was purported to be images of the alleged scuffle, but was still unconvinced.

“That is fake, that is AI, we know how the Internet stay already,” he said. The resident added that he did not believe Coke would risk jeopardising his release after so long.

“Him naa mash up that because he was to come out ‘28 but now it’s ‘29 mi hear. It was 2028 ... him wouldn’t mash up that,” he said.

Coke, who once led the notorious Shower Posse, is serving a 23-year prison sentence for racketeering and drug trafficking. He is due to be released on January 29, 2029. Meanwhile, Combs was sentenced last year to just over four years in federal prison after being convicted on prostitution-related charges involving two of his former girlfriends.
