Two wins for TT team
Jamaica's men's table tennis team made it two wins from two matches at the Perfect 2016 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after scoring another 3-0 win over Laos yesterday.
Michael Hyatt defeated Phathaphone Thavisack 3-2, Watson Kane stopped Mosangsinh Sonpasith 3-0 and Mark Phillips overcame Oliyavong Phonepaseud 3-2.
In the opening game, Hyatt scored a narrow and nail-biting win, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-13, 4-11, over Thavisack. Kane then brushed aside Sonpasith 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 to put the Jamaicans firmly in control, before Phillips sealed the win after beating Phonepaseud in five sets, 11-6, 10-12, 3-11, 11-6, 7-11.
The Jamaicans are second in the group with maximum four points. They trail leaders Morocco, the country they defeated in their opening match, by one point. Morocco have, however, played three matches.
The Jamaicans will next face Democratic Republic of Congo in their third match of the tournament today.
