Schafer accused Tracey of witch hunt
Reggae Boyz coach Winfried Schafer has blasted Gleaner columnist Oral Tracey saying the commentary has instigated a witch-hunt against him.
Following the Reggae Boyz's uninspiring performance and early exit from the ongoing Copa America Centenario, there have been calls for Sch%0fer to be sacked.
However, the German, speaking with STAR Sports, refused to respond to the calls for his head and is convinced that the witch-hunt is being instigated by Tracey, whom he characterises as a "'comic man".
"It is not important what Oral Tracey says. I (will) not answer a comic on the TV. He is a comic. He needs publicity. I take my job 100 per cent (serious). This man, he don't know for three weeks how many local-based players (were) in the team, so why we talk about this man," he said.
"Jamaica public is not only five people and Oral Tracey. These people are not important. What is important is to work to win matches. This man only talks for himself. He needs for his show a critic. When the people listen to the comic, he makes comic on football," Schafer added.
Tracey is however calling for Schafer to be fired.
"When it comes to my football, it's not a joke thing," he told STAR Sports.
"The results are there for everybody to see. We are hanging on for dear life in World Cup football. That's an embarrassment in itself. Look at how the team played. He has been here for three years and he can show nothing for it in terms of development. He is an abject failure as a coach, and I think the rest of Jamaica is catching on," Tracey added.
"He (Schafer) can giggle on that if he thinks it's a joke," he concluded.
