Jamaica lose Under 15 opener
Opener Kenny Sutton hit an important 33 to help lift Leeward Islands to a two-wicket victory over Jamaica in the opener of the Regional Under-15 Championship with a seven-wicket victory over Windward Islands at Tanteen on Wednesday.
In pursuit of 143 for victory, the Leewards got home in the 46th over, with Tariq Newman weighing in with 22. Sutton put on 60 for the first wicket with Damien Hodge (19), while Newman anchored critical stands of 23 for the fourth wicket with Damari Benta (9) and 27 for the sixth wicket with Cordelle Romney (19) to see their side home.
Jamaica, sent in, were dismissed for 141 off 42.4 overs, with Razzaq Williams hitting a steady 28 and Romario Barnes a cameo unbeaten 27 off 34 deliveries with four fours and a six.
In the other game at La Sagesse, Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) defeated arch-rivals Barbados by 23 runs.
Sent in, T&T mustered 174 for eight off their 50 overs, with Jayden Seales top-scoring with 41 off 34 deliveries with four fours, and Leon Basanoo getting 24.
In reply, Seth Agard top-scored with 35 and Reshawn Worrell 32 not out, but Tariq Mohammed hurt the innings with three for 21 to send Barbados tumbling for 151 off 46.1 overs.
Opener Sachin Singh struck the only half-century of the opening round as he helped Guyana make a winning start.
Chasing a meagre 109 at Progress Park, Guyana reached their target off 37.4 overs.
