Taylor fails as Thunder lose
West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor failed as reigning champions Sydney Thunder slipped to a 33-run defeat to cross-town rivals Sydney Sixers in the Women's Big Bash here yesterday.
Set a challenging 165 for victory at Sydney Showground Stadium, Thunder never mounted a serious run chase and stumbled to 131 for seven off their allotted 20 overs.
For Taylor's side, the loss broke a two-game winning streak after wins over Melbourne Renegades on Boxing Day and the following day (Tuesday).
The right-handed Taylor managed just 12 as Thunder started poorly, slumping to 19 for two in the third over.
However, Erin Osborne top-scored with 32 while captain Alex Blackwell struck 31.
Osborne put on 34 for the fifth wicket with Indian Harmanpreet Kaur (18) and a further 31 with Nicola Carey (20) for the sixth wicket, but neither partnership was able to get Thunder over the line.
Earlier, 19-year old Ashleigh Gardner slammed a 31-ball unbeaten 52 to lift Sixers to 164 for three after they were sent in.
Alyssa Healy top-scored with 55 from 38 balls in an opening stand of 88 with captain Ellyse Perry, who made a run-a-ball 42.
