PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Head coach Tom Saintfiet has axed the trio of Daneil Cyrus, Jomal Williams and Joevin Jones from a 20-man Trinidad and Tobago squad selected to contest the CFU Caribbean Cup play-offs starting here tomorrow.

The newly appointed Belgian said Cyrus and Williams reported late to camp on Sunday with "a decent smell of alcohol around them", while Jones had simply not shown up.

Sainfiet said he had concluded Jones had no "interest in helping his country to qualify".

Trevin Caesar, Curtis Gonzales and Akeem Roach, initially dropped from the larger training group, have been recalled.

T&T are set to take on Suriname in the opening game of the play-off series tomorrow at the Ato Boldon Stadium before clashing with French Caribbean nation Haiti on Sunday at the same venue. The winners of the three-team series will take on the fifth-place side from Central America in a play-off which determines the final spot at the CONCACAF Gold Cup later this year.
