Edwin Allen shine at GC Foster

Edwin Allen's Shellece Clarke

Edwin Allen High swept the girls' 4x100 metres at last Saturday's Central Hurdles and Relays. Running on the spacious oval at G.C. Foster College, Edwin Allen showed a potent blend of slick baton passing and speed. That combination produced records in Classes One, Three and Four.

The Class One team of Kasheika Cameron, reigning Boys and Girls' Class One 100m champion Patrice Moody, Shellece Clarke and Khamoy Farquharson quick-stepped to the finish in an eyebrow-raising clocking of 45.08 seconds. Salecia Myles, 2016 Class Three 100 and 200m winner Kevona Davis, hurdler Lisandra Brown and Shanique Rose slipped under the 46 seconds barrier with a time of 45.99 seconds. That threshold is seldom surpassed by Class Three teams at Champs.

Losing efforts

In Class Four, the little destroyers were Serena Cole, Tina Clayton, Alesha McKenzie and Leanna Lewis with a run of 47.50.

By comparison, their Class Two teammates needed 47.47 seconds to complete the circuit.

There were two fine legs that came in losing efforts. Joanne Reid, last year's Class Three 400m winner, zoomed St Jago into second well behind Edwin Allen and Michae Harriot of Holmwood was eating up ground on the second leg in Class Two. Sadly, her teammates dropped the baton at the last exchange.
