Bigger 'Friday Night Football' in store
The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president, Wayne Shaw, said that the association's Super League title sponsors Magnum will stage increased promotion for Friday Night Football this season.
KSAFA and title sponsors J. Wray and Nephew through its Magnum brand will be staging tonight's Super League double-header at the Constant Spring Complex in St Andrew. In the first game, the Jamaica Defence Force FC will face off against Rockfort at 6:30 p.m., followed by Cavalier SC against Browns Town, starting at 8:30 p.m.
"It is the second year of our Friday Night Football games, because last year it was good. We had last year's champions, Maverley-Hughenden who had a massive support base. They had most of the Friday-night games, which led to the success last season. Now, with Maverley-Hughenden promoted to the Premier League, we will have to rev up promotion," Shaw told STAR Sports.
"The Friday-night games help the clubs, as they get a little money from gate receipts. It is a good concept," Shaw said.
"We will also have entertainment for the spectators and spot prizes, courtesy of the sponsors. The sponsors love the Friday Night Football so they are fully behind it," he added.
Cavalier SC are firmly on course for a semi-final spot in the Super League. A win for the Rudolph Speid-coached outfit would put them into the semi-finals, while Browns Town could do the same with maximum points.
Cavalier lead Zone A with 28 points, while Browns Town are on top in Zone B on 24 points. Both teams clash in a cross-zone game. When the teams met in the mid-season final, Cavalier won 2-0 and will look to continue in that vein.
