Newcomers Sandals South Coast enter the 'Jungle'
Newcomers Sandals South Coast hold no fear when they face off against reigning champions Arnett Gardens in the opening round of the Red Stripe Premier League at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Trench Town, starting at 8:35 p.m. today.
That game is the feature of a Monday double header. In the curtain-raiser, promoted Cavalier SC challenge last season's beaten finalist Portmore United, starting at 5:45 p.m.
Coach of Sandals South Coast Aaron Lawrence said that his team is ready for the challenge.
"We have no fear. Anywhere we go the aim is to play good football and come away with a positive result," Lawrence told STAR Sports yesterday.
"We have been preparing. We are ready, and we are looking forward to a good performance, come Monday. The aim is to finish in the top six, then that would be a big achievement and a big plus for us," he added.
Since promoted, Sandals have signed Jamoy Sibblies from relegated Maverley-Hughenden. They will also look to national senior team invitee Lenardo Rankine and striker Dervin Campbell.
not the best
Arnett Gardens started preseason a bit late and the coach is a little concerned.
"Things are definitely not the best, but we had more time with the delay of the league. Some of our key players will not be starting the season because they chose to go overseas in the summer, and so we will work with the other players," Arnett's long-serving coach Jerome 'Jerry' Waite said.
Meanwhile, in yesterday's game, Waterhouse and the University of the West Indies (UWI) battled to a 1-1 draw at UWI.
UWI missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time when Rochane Smith effort was saved by Waterhouse's goalkeeper Diego Haughton.
Waterhouse substitute Dasha 'Iron Dawg' Satchwell scored in his debut for the club in the 60th minute. However, that was cancelled five minutes later by UWI substitute Davion Garrison.
