Edwards planning for long term with Denham Town
Having registered just one win from five matches so far in this year's ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup competition, Denham Town head coach Omar Edwards said that the team is already rebuilding for the next season.
Two seasons ago, the west Kingston-based school exceeded expectations and made the semi-final of the competition. They followed up that performance with a quarter-final berth a year later.
Edwards told Star Sports that his team is very young and experience will prepare them much better for next season.
"This squad is a young one because I think that out of the 28 players that we have registered, only four of them can't play next season," said Edwards.
"It is a work in progress and the future looks bright for this Denham Town team for years to come," he said.
Edwards added that they plan to pick up as many points as possible for the reminder of the competition.
Very bad position
"We are not going to count out ourselves despite being in a very bad position at this time," Edwards said.
"The sky is the limit and we will take it one game at a time, so we will see what will happen at the end of the group stage," he said.
"I believe that we have defended stoutly in this competition so far, but we need to improve a lot on our offensive thrust," Edwards pointed out.
"Teaching players how to defend and organise is not a very difficult job for me, but the creative part that you need from the players has to come from their brainpower. This is lacking in the majority of the game," he said.
Denham Town are second from bottom in the group, which is being led by former champions St George's College with 15 points.
