C'down out for revenge against Hydel
Camperdown coach Christopher Bender said their 5-2 defeat against Hydel in the first round of the Manning Cup was not a true reflection of the game, and his team is aiming to avenge that loss to put themselves back in contention for top spot in Group C.
Camperdown (seven games) lead group C with 18 points, three more than Hydel, who have played two games less. They are followed by Waterford, 12, Cumberland and Meadowbrook on six each and St Mary's College at the bottom without a point.
Bender knows it is crucial for Camperdown to get maximum points from the game if they want to win the group, and he is confident the desired result can be achieved this time.
"We played them before and the result didn't reflect the game. A lot of things conspired against us, but we were the chief offender of our defeat. We recognised that and we trained accordingly. From that game, we have not lost or drawn.
"The team is in good shape, and we want to prove that the result in the first game wasn't a reflection of how we played," he added, pointing out that at this stage of the competition every point matters and it was a very important match for both teams.
"We just want to continue improving the team so, definitely, we are prepared to play for these three points," he said.
Meanwhile, coach Neville Bell said former winners St George's College, after sealing their place in the next round with a win against Tarrant on Tuesday, are now looking to secure top place in the group.
"We have qualified (second round), and that was our first aim. The second one (goal) is to try and win the zone. We got the first one, now we have to try and work on the second one. We have three games to go, some tough teams, Vauxhall, St Catherine and Denham Town. It won't be easy, but we are a confident team and when we get it right, we will do well," Bell pointed out.
