Nelson promises 100 per cent at Fast5
Goal shooter Shimona Nelson is set to make her overseas debut for the Sunshine Girls' at the Fast5 Netball World Series against South Africa in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday at 1:45p.m, (Friday 9:45 p.m. Jamaica time).
The 18-year-old Nelson, who is a member of Jamaica’s team to this year’s World Youth Championships in Botswana, also played for the Sunshine Girls senior team against Barbados in April.
Nelson, who stands at six feet, three inches, told Star Sports that she is feeling very nervous ahead of the championships Down Under.
“I am feeling very exciting, nervous and I am still in shock that I am on the team to the Fast5 Championships,” said Nelson.
“My preparation was quite challenging, but I was able to come overcome it because my teammates motivated me a lot,” she said. “They know that I am young to this Fast5 tournament.”
The Sunshine Girls finished fifth in last year's tournament, which was also held in Australia. But Nelson said she expects the team to do much better this year.
“I am pretty confident that the girls will do well because we are all going there to do our best for the country,” Nelson said.
“People can expect a hundred percent from me none stop despite my inexperience in this format of the game,” she said.
“The nerves are in, but the nerves are good and so with the nerves, I am going to try and convert it into something good and to make a good contribution to the team,” said Nelson.
“I am person that can do well under pressure, so if it comes, I know that I will be able to overcome it,” she said.
