Jamaica and DC United striker Darren Mattocks said he is looking forward to partnering with former England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who is said to be in talks to join the Major League Soccer (MLS) club.

The Washington Post has reported that talks between Rooney's representatives and DC United have accelerated in recent weeks and that the club has a 50 per cent chance of acquiring him during the MLS transfer and trade window, which will open on July 10.

Mattocks told STAR Sports that the likely arrival of Rooney, who currently plays for Everton in the English Premier League, will be a major boost for the club and its players.

"He brings loads of experience playing at the highest level and playing with the best players in the world, so it is definitely a very big boost for the club," said Mattocks.

LEADING SCORER

"Well, most definitely, whether he plays up front or midfield, it's going to be great playing with anyone who has his qualities," Mattocks said.

He added that he is hoping to learn a lot from Rooney, who is England's all-time leading scorer, with 53 goals in 119 appearances.

"Yes, not just me, but every player, because he brings loads of experience, so we can all learn from him," he said.

The 32-year-old Rooney has scored 10 goals for Everton in the Premier League this season after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season, where he spent 13 years.

Mattocks, who has netted three goals in five matches so far this season, added that he is pleased with his campaign in the competition this year. "Three (goals) from five games is not a bad strike rate so far," said Mattocks.
