White shocked at Whitmore's Call

Cavalier's goalkeeper, Jaedine White, said he was surprised to receive his first senior national call up.

White was selected as part of a Theodore Whitmore's 21 man squad which began a four day training camp on Monday at the JFF/Captain Burrell Technical Centre.

The 17 year old is not only looking to learn as much as he can from the experience but is hoping to make the most of the opportunity as well.

"It (call-up) is a surprise. Because I know that there are so many qualified goalkeepers in Jamaica and they look to a youngster like me at age 17 to come and take part in their camp, so this is a great boost for me," he told Star Sports yesterday.

Although he relishes the opportunity to train with and learn from experience peers such as UWI's Amal Knight and Arnett Gardens' Damian Hyatt, his aim is to become a regular member of the squad.

"To get the chance to train with Amal Knight and Damian Hyatt you have to grasp these opportunities and take in as much as possible. You take what they have and add it to what I have and I am sure it makes me more complete," he said.

FAIR CHANCE

"But I am looking forward to stay here and train with the team as long as I can. Everyone has a fair chance and if I come and perform better than the next goalkeeper, then they will have no choice but to keep me here, young or not," he reasoned.

He added that the players in the camp have create a very harmonious environment which makes it possible for them all to strive and do well.

"It (training camp) is going good. The players here are just local players who play against each other in the league, but you would think that they are all from one club, because they live so loving. They are all like family here, even those who are here for the first time and it helps because I feel like I'm at home or at school or at Cavalier training, so it's a welcoming environment," he commented.

The Cavalier 'shot stopper' who led St Andrew Technical to last season's Manning Cup final, recently helped KSAFA All Stars to the Sportsmax Elite League title.
