Portmore United will be looking to take a crucial first-leg advantage when they host Haitian side Violette AC in the semifinals of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup at Sabina Park today, with kick-off set for 7 p.m.

The Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions face a stern test against a Violette side that won all four of their matches.

Portmore booked their place in the last four with a 2-1 victory over Cibao FC, finishing second in Group B, and will be aiming to record consecutive wins in the Caribbean Cup for the first time this season.

Violette, meanwhile, topped Group A with a perfect record of four wins from four matches, becoming only the second team in the competition’s history to reach the semifinals without dropping points.

Footsteps

They follow in the footsteps of defending Caribbean Cup champions Mount Pleasant Football Academy.

The Haitian outfit scored seven goals during the group stage, with forwards Elyvens Dejean and Miche-Naider Chery accounting for four of those strikes.

Portmore also possess several attacking threats, including veteran striker Cory Burke, who holds extensive experience playing in the United States. He showed his eye for goal with two crucial strikes against Cibao in the final group stage game that secured Portmore’s spot in the semifinals.

For Portmore, today’s match will be crucial from a defensive standpoint as the hosts will need to ensure they do not concede, with the away goal rule in effect.

The second leg of the semifinals is set to be played at Estadio Cibao in the Dominican Republic.
