ISSA Manning Cup JC aiming to fix slow start

October 13, 2026

Jamaica College (JC), under examination for using an ineligible player in earlier matches, will be looking for a convincing performance when they face Campion College in the ISSA Manning Cup today.

The Old Hope Road-based school is awaiting the outcome of a disciplinary ruling for using Jamone Lyle, who has a professional contract with Waterhouse FC, in ISSA’s competitions.

The Amateurism Rule of ISSA bars schools from using players under professional contract in their competitions.

It is still uncertain how that will impact JC’s position, following their 3-2 win in their opening, second-round victory over St Catherine High.

The penalty, according to the rule, could likely include loss of all three points in matches that Lyle represented the school, and by a three-goal margin.

Meanwhile, Mona High will host Bridgeport High at Mona High School. Mona will enter today’s Group D encounter with confidence after opening their second-round campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Denham Town High.

They currently lead the group on goal difference and will be looking to maintain their momentum as they pursue their second Manning Cup title.

Quality to repeat

The school last won the competition in 2023, and Dante Peralto, a member of Mona’s coaching staff, believes the current squad has the quality to repeat that success.

“We’re always a team that’s willing to be on the back foot and fight going forward after that,” Peralto said.

“We’ve proven it time and time again. It’s a young team as well, so we have to give them their flowers, and they’ll do well; I believe in them.”
